Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to AOVIS. Fifth Key Element Co., Limited ("we," "us," "our") develops and operates the AOVIS brand of home security camera products and related services, including the AOVIS mobile application ("App") and associated cloud services. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information in connection with our website, App, products, and services.

AOVIS products are designed for residential use. Video footage captured by your AOVIS device is recorded within your own property and is accessible only to you through your authorized account, subject to the practices described in this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Email address — used for account creation, login, and authentication.
  • Support communications — information you provide when contacting customer support.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information — device model, operating system version, app version, unique device identifiers, and usage data used to support app functionality, performance, and troubleshooting.
  • Log data — IP address, timestamps, and system logs generated during use of the App or website.

2.3 Video and Recording Data

Our products are home security cameras designed to record footage of your residential property. In connection with your use of the App and optional cloud features, we process the following:

  • Video recordings — footage captured by your AOVIS device on your residential property, which may include images of individuals present in and around your home, including household members, visitors, and others within the camera's field of view.
  • AI-generated content — when you activate the optional AI Summary feature, text summaries and content index entries derived from your selected video footage, as further described in Section 6.

3. App-Specific Data Collection and Use

The App collects only the information necessary to provide core features:

  • User email address — required for authentication and access to your authorized device features.
  • Device information — basic identifiers and system information used to enable connectivity with your AOVIS camera, support performance optimization, and facilitate technical support.

The App does not collect geolocation data or any personal information unrelated to the operation of your device and the services described in this Policy.

4. Use of Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To authenticate and authorize your access to your AOVIS devices and account.
  • To enable core App functionality, including live video viewing, remote access, device management, and notifications.
  • To support cloud-based services, including optional cloud storage and subscription features.
  • To deliver optional AI-powered features, including AI Summary, when you choose to activate them, as described in Section 6.
  • To improve, maintain, and optimize the App and related services.
  • To communicate with you regarding service updates, support responses, and notices.

5. Cloud Services and Third-Party Processors

5.1 Cloud Infrastructure

We use third-party cloud infrastructure services hosted by Tange in North America to deliver certain App features, including:

  • Secure video streaming and remote access
  • Cloud-based storage of your recordings (optional subscription feature)
  • Device pairing and synchronization

Data transmitted to these services may include email identifiers, device connection state, video stream metadata, recorded footage where cloud storage is enabled, and subscription status. These services are engaged solely to provide and support the features of the App and are subject to appropriate data processing safeguards.

5.2 AI Processing Sub-Processor

When you activate the AI Summary feature, selected video footage is transmitted to Google LLC via Google Cloud Vertex AI for AI inference processing. Google acts as a sub-processor under a Data Processing Addendum that restricts its use of your data to service delivery only and prohibits Google from using customer data to train or improve its foundation models. See Section 6.4 for full disclosure.

5.3 No Sale of Personal Data

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. AI Summary Feature

6.1 Overview and Activation

AOVIS offers an optional AI Summary feature available through the App for compatible home security camera products. When you activate AI Summary on a specific video clip, the App processes that recording to generate a text-based summary and searchable content index of the footage. AI Summary is not enabled by default and does not operate automatically or continuously in the background. Processing occurs only when you explicitly initiate it for a selected recording within the App.

6.2 Data Processed

Activation of AI Summary involves the processing of the following categories of information:

  • Video footage — the specific clip you select, as recorded by your AOVIS device on your residential property. This footage may include visual depictions of individuals present in your home environment, including facial images and physical characteristics of household members, visitors, or others captured within the camera's field of view.
  • AI-generated output — text summaries and content index entries derived from processing the selected footage, associated with your account and accessible to you through the App.

6.3 Purpose and Scope of Processing

Video footage submitted through AI Summary is processed exclusively for the following purposes: (a) generating the text summary and content index you have requested; and (b) making those outputs available to you within the App for personal use and footage retrieval.

We do not use AI Summary data for any other purpose, including: training, fine-tuning, or otherwise improving any artificial intelligence or machine learning model; advertising or marketing; cross-user analysis or profiling; or any purpose unrelated to delivering this feature to you individually.

6.4 Sub-Processor: Google Cloud Vertex AI

To generate AI summaries, we transmit the selected video clip to Google LLC via Google Cloud Vertex AI, a machine learning inference service. Google processes this data as a sub-processor acting solely on our behalf, under a Data Processing Addendum that limits Google's use of your data to service delivery and prohibits Google from using customer data to train or improve its foundation models.

6.5 No Sale or Sharing of AI Summary Data

We do not sell, rent, or share for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes any personal information processed through AI Summary, including video footage submitted for processing and AI-generated summaries and index entries.

6.6 Your Controls

You may exercise the following controls at any time through the App:

  • Disable AI Summary — you may turn off the AI Summary feature in the Settings section of the App. Once disabled, no further video clips will be submitted for AI processing. Disabling the feature does not automatically delete previously generated summaries.
  • Delete summaries — you may delete individual AI-generated summaries and associated content index entries through the App. Deleted content is removed from our active systems within thirty (30) calendar days of your deletion request.

6.7 Data Retention

AI-generated summaries and content index entries are retained in your account for the duration of your active subscription to the applicable AOVIS cloud service. Upon subscription expiration or termination, your access to all AI-generated summaries and index entries will cease immediately, and this data will be deleted from our systems within thirty (30) calendar days. Earlier deletion is available upon your request pursuant to Section 6.6 or Section 9 of this Policy.

7. App Permissions

The App may request access to the following device features to support certain functions:

  • Camera — for live video display and two-way communication initiated by you.
  • Microphone — for two-way audio, where supported by your device model.

These permissions are requested only when the relevant feature is activated and are required solely for the functionality you select.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Recordings stored through the optional cloud storage feature are retained for the duration of your active subscription or as configured in your account settings, and may be deleted upon account termination upon request.

AI-generated summaries and content index entries are subject to the retention terms described in Section 6.7.

9. Your Rights and Choices

9.1 General Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access — you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — you may request that we correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion — you may request deletion of your personal information, subject to applicable legal retention obligations.
  • Withdrawal of Consent — where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.

9.2 California Residents

If you are a California resident, you may have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, "CCPA/CPRA"):

  • Right to Know — you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the business purposes for which it is used, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
  • Right to Delete — you may request deletion of personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct — you may request correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing — we do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. No action is required to exercise this right with respect to our current data practices.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — to the extent video footage processed through the AI Summary feature constitutes sensitive personal information under CCPA/CPRA, you may limit its use to the purposes set forth in Section 6.3 by disabling the AI Summary feature as described in Section 6.6.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not deny services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised any right under this section.

To exercise any of the rights described in this Section 9, please contact us at guorui@aovis.app. We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and provide a substantive response within 45 calendar days. If additional time is required, we will notify you of the extension and the reason.

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your information. Video footage and other data transmitted through the App and to third-party processors, including for AI Summary processing, are protected using encrypted connections. No security system is completely impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

11. Children's Privacy

Our products and services are not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or business operations. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will provide notice through the App or by email prior to the change taking effect.
